Grady Smithey Supports Property Tax Hike

I wonder how District 4 residents feel about paying a higher property tax in the worst economic crisis since The Depression. Hmm.

Councilmember Grady Smithey of District 4 favored raising the property tax rate in lieu of cutting services. However other council members were not willing to entertain that idea. Smithey persisted in
his position and stated that it was not a matter of whether taxes were going to be raised, but when.

If my memory serves me correct, in 2004, A group calling themselve, "Citizens for more shopping and less taxes", convinced our voters to approve beer and wine sales, in our community, suggesting that the increased tax revenue would result in lower taxes. That did not happen.

Also as a dry community, Duncanville had very little crime. Since we voted wet crime has significantly increased.
